The youngest of four [4] children, MILES was the first child born in the United States following a decision made by MILES & MARY KIRBY to seek fame and fortune in the United States. Traveling in concert with several other KIRBY families, the KIRBYS departed Limerick CO, Ireland sometime in or about 1855, and ended approximately 15-years later when the family finally arrived in New York City.

Residing for awhile in England and later Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, his birth was considered a significant milestone when family members later discussed their journey. Siblings JAMES, CORNELIUS and HANORA were thought to be born in Liverpool, England, but recent investigation suggests maybe CORNELIUS and HANORA were born in Brazil.

Marrying MARY, like his parents, MILES had four [4] children. Employed as a truck driver, he died rather young when he was 45-years old, in 1915, possibly, as a result of a trucking accident.
