Ben was a truck driver, and a family man. He was the son of German Swiss immigrants, John and Minnie Frei of Sacramento. He did have nine brothers and sisters: Bennie, Louise, Bertha, John Jr., Albert, Agatha, Minnie, Charles, and Walter.
With the loss of his wife, Catherine June, in 1945, Ben was left distraught the rest of his life. Since he was not able to recover from his wife's death he lost custody of his children. He found comfort in the bottom of bottles which was the ultimate cause of his death.
Ben was killed when he was struck by a VW bus at 2 am trying to cross the boulevard at the intersection, Auburn blvd. and College Oak Dr, in Sacramento. He was intoxicated at the time of his death. He suffered massive head injuries and died immediately at impact.
Even though he couldn't care for his children, he was close to his daughter, Linda. She was the closest family he had at the time of his death.
Ben never remarried, but was haunted for the rest of his days with his wife's tragic memory.
Him and his wife, Catherine, lie and rest eternally and irrevocably side by side together in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Ben was born in 1911, as there is an error on his gravestone.
Forever in our hearts. Rest in Peace Grandpa.
