James T. Mitchell, aged 73 years, retired farmer, died at 5 o'clock Friday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. B. F. Brown, two and one half miles southeast of Smithton, with whom he had resided two years, following a short illness of bronchial pneumonia. He was taken ill last Sunday.
Mr. Mitchell was born in Morgan County, Missouri on July 22, 1850. He was married to Miss Abigail Wheeler at that place who preceded him in death on May 2, 1922. Of this union eight children were born, seven of whom survive.
The deceased had lived his entire life around Smithton and Florence being engaged in farming until about three years ago when he retired.
Surviving him are five daughters, Mrs. B. F. Cramer, Mrs. R. H. Reed, Mrs. O. E. Brown, all of Sedalia, Mrs. J. F. Bass, of Smithton and Mrs. C. C. Brown, of Kansas City, and two sons, J. C. Mitchell, of Florence and E. A. Mitchell of Sedalia.
He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. J. T. Calaflower, of Sedalia, thirty-six grand children and three great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at the Smithton Methodist Episcopal church at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon, the Rev. W. B. McGraw, pastor of the East Sedalia Baptist church, to officiate.
Grandsons of the deceased will serve as pall bearers.
Interment will be in Smithton cemetery.
