On Aug 30, 1941, he married Juna Knutson in a triple ceremony at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Centerville SD with Mr and Mrs Sanford Hinseth and Mr and Mrs LaVerne Frick. The couple farmed during their entire lifetime near Centerville. Bernest was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of Scandia Lutheran Church.

Among the survivors are his wife Juna; three sons, Bernell of Denver CO; Ardel of Lewistown MT; and Roger of Centerville. one brother, Sigvold Knudson ot Centerville; one sister, Esther (Mrs Isaac Oaklan) of Seattle WA; and two grandchildren, Keith and Timothy.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Services were held at Scandia Lutheran Church for Bernest who passed away at the Viborg Hospital. Rev Arthur Grorud officated. Mrs Sandord Hinseth and Mrs LaVerne Frick sang a duet "Beautiful Message So Tender" with Mrs David Holter as accompanist. Mrs Dewey Erickson ws the organist.

There has been much confusion concerning the spelling of the last name. Most of Knute's sons took the Knudson spelling while Bernest kept the Knutson spelling. It is unknown why the spelling is Knudson on the Grave stone. All three of Bernest and Juna's sons have kept the Knutson spelling.
