John Lund immigrated in 1891 from Esse, Finland. He was born Johan Mattsson Stubb and changed his name upon coming to America. He was the son of Matts Andersson Stubb and Cajsa Greta Eriksdotter Maans from Esse, Finland.
John Lund was a minor by trade. He mined in Goldfield, Colorado and then later in Leadville. He finally settled in Montezuma, Colorado. At all times he took an active interest in the educational and municipal affairs of the community, and his good judgement and social nature brought him various local honors. He served 5 terms as Mayor of Montezuma and also had been employed as a superintendent of many large mining companies in the area. He served as president of the school board for 9 yrs. He had 5 children. One died as an infant and is buried next to him.
