Rare & Precious. A Life to Celebrate.

Mildred Nicoletta Allen, age 105, a long time Falmouth resident died June 28th. She was the loving wife of Robert Schumann Allen who died in January 1992. They were married 57 years. Born on the island of Manhattan, Mrs. Allen attended New York Textile High School, Traphagan School of Design and Columbia University.

After working on Madison Avenue she became a New York State licensed real estate broker until retirement. As a nonagenarian, Mrs. Allen became a published poet, celebrating life's events. Her real gift was her ebullient spirit and faith-based ability to navigate her way through each new unchartered area of life. She had a talent for gathering numerous friends and served as an inspiration and catalyst in the lives of others.

Mrs. Allen looked upon her Cape Cod years as some of her happiest, although she never lost her love for New York City. Active in many of the social, religious and civic organizations in Falmouth, she received the Margaret M. Lahey Award for outstanding service from then Archbishop Sean O'Malley. Mrs. Allen was President of St. Patrick's Council of Catholic Women, hosted Renew Mission Sessions and was proactive with Morality in Media. As an indefatigable volunteer she was well known for her active role in the Falmouth Theatre Guild, Falmouth Historical Society, Highfield Hall, Friends of the Library, Falmouth Stroke Survivors Group, The Samaritans, and the Falmouth Council for Civic Beautification. Her active participation was recognized on Dec. 13, 2003 as Mildred Allen Day in Falmouth.

For touching so many lives, her grace and courage will always be remembered. She will long be an inspiring spirit who showed us how life should be lived.

Mrs. Allen is survived by a son Robert G. Allen and his wife Roseleen and a daughter, Melene N. Donovan and her husband Richard. She has four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, July 1st in the Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street FALMOUTH CENTER . A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 2nd at 11:00 AM St. Patrick's Church, 511 Main Street, Falmouth. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in New York City on Thursday at The Woodlawn Cemetery.
