FALMOUTH — Lorin B. Appel, 67, of Falmouth, MA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Buckley Nursing Home in Greenfield, MA.
Born in Boston, MA, to Maurice and Elizabeth Appel, he lived most of his life in Falmouth. Despite being born partially blind and deaf, Lorin was always ready to tell a joke and was known by many for his sense of humor and quick wit. He was an inspiration to many and will truly be missed.
Among his many occupations, Lorin was always fond of the memories of working long hours with his parents at Appel's pharmacy. The pharmacy was a staple on Falmouth's main street for many years, and he was very proud of the help and service the pharmacy was able to provide to countless Falmouth residents during those years.
Lorin was happiest when he was able to go out share a dinner with friends or relatives and was known for his affinity towards anything involving Grand Marnier or blue cheese. A lover of science fiction, his favorite hobby was to listen to his favorite TV show, Stargate SG1, or play books on tape.
Lorin was extremely loving and proud of his two sons, Jesse Appel, of Brookline, and Alex Appel, of Littleton. He is also survived by his cousin Leena Newcomb whom he was extremely close with; as well as many other loving cousins and friends. He is predeceased by his father, Maurice, who passed in 1991 and mother, Elizabeth, who passed last July.
Lorin will be laid to rest at Oak Grove Cemetery in Falmouth at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 17.
Memorial donations may be made in Lorin's name to D.E.A.F., Inc. 215 Brighton Avenue, Allston, MA 02134.
