CHARLESTON, S.C. — Ruth Jones Alvezi, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully at her residence on April 16, 2012.
Born on September 4, 1916, in Barnstable Village she was the eldest of eight children of the late William A. and Elsie L. Jones. She was predeceased by her seven siblings. Ruth was educated in the Barnstable school system. She continued her education at the Chandler Secretarial School in Boston and returned to the Cape to work as a secretary for the Barnstable Country Clerk of Courts and later for the health department.
In 1943 Ruth married James N. Alvezi of Sandwich. They continued their lives together moving all over the world. Jim Alvezi's job with Foster Wheeler Construction Company led them on many great adventures around the world. Upon retirement Ruth and Jimmy returned to their beloved Cape Cod. Mrs. Alvezi had one daughter, Marjorie Jey.
Ruth enjoyed knitting, needlepoint and in earlier years boating. But her passion was knitting. Baby sweaters, bonnets, booties and baby afghans were her gifts to her many nieces and nephews as their babies came along.
She was predeceased by her husband of 37 years, James Alvezi. Survivors include her daughter, Marjorie Jey Lasher and her husband Butch, two granddaughters, Jennifer Bond and Julie Amato, and five great grandchildren, Jake, Emily and Elizabeth Bond and Lauren and Morgan Amato.
A graveside memorial will be held on June 5th at 11 a.m. at the Cummaquid Cemetery in Cummaquid.
