Alexander July 24, 1910 to Aug. 19, 1989 John Healy Alexander of 4005 Cedar Road in Delta died Saturday of natural causes at the San Juan Living Center in Montrose. He was 79. Mr. Alexander was a Delta resident for 21 years. He was a retired farmer. He was born July 24, 1910, in Lockport, Ill. to Healy Alexander and Helen Baker Alexander. He spent his childhood in Lockport and graduated from Lockport High School in 1929. His mother was his school teacher. Mr. Alexander attended the University of Illinois in Champaign. He married Mary Pell on Nov. 8, 1933, in Wheaton Township, Ill. She survives. Mr. Alexander moved from Lockport to Delta in 1968 to retire, then he learned irrigation techniques and became a farmer. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Delta. In Lockport, he belonged to the Lions Club and was a Boy Scout leader. He also served as a member of the Lockport Town Board and Lockport School Board. His hobbies included woodcarving, coin collecting, gardening, farming and tinkering with machinery. While his daughters were high school cheerleaders, he drove the squad to all of its athletic events. In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons and their wives, John H. Alexander Jr. and Sally of Manhattan Beach, Calif., and Michael and Marilee Alexander of Montecito, Calif.; four daughters and their husbands, Marianne and Rich Hamrick of Cory; Joan and Tom Haller of Indian Wells, Calif.; Carol and Don Wicburg of Delta; and Elizabeth and Jack Stucko of Lansing, Mich.; a nephew and his wife, Alan and Peggy Troxel of Alexandria, Va.; a brother, H. Hayes Alexander of Montrose; and two sisters, Margaret Eaton of Hatboro, Pa., and Ruth Durrer of Joliet, Ill.; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A brother and three sisters are deceased. Private family services will be in the Mesa View Mortuary Chapel in Delta with the Rev. Jack Muller officiating.
