William Wooten Waldrip, the 3rd son of Joel & Georgia Waldrip had 7 brothers & 1 sister.
He died at Ft. McClellen Army base in Calhoun County, Alabama from a accidental gun shot wound to the abdomen.
He was walking with friends from Ft. McClellen on a gravel road to the local town, someone fired a gun from a passing car. It hit William in the abdomen. His injury was thought not to be very serious at first, however he died several days later. After his death they found that his intestine had been cut in 7 different places. The bullit had ricocheted off the gravel making it flat by the time it hit William. The shooter was never found.
This is the account of William's death that my father, George Waldrip, his brother told me.
