Obituary – Park Region Echo, May 25, 1939, page 8, column 5, Alexandria, Minnesota
Otto Anderson
Otto Anderson, a resident of Douglas county for more than half a century passed away in Alexandria on Friday, May 19, at 11:55 a.m. being at the time of his death 84 years, 3 months and 22 days. He suffered a stroke a week before his death from which he failed to rally.
Otto Anderson was born in Lima parish, Dalarna county, Sweden, January 27, 1855. His family then moved to Solør (Grue parish) in Hedmark, Norway.
He came to America in 1887, coming to Minnesota and settling on a farm in Lake Mary where he lived a short time, when he took charge of Senator Knute Nelson's farm for five years, at which time he bought a farm from Mr. Nelson on Lake Victoria, which had since been his home.
Surviving are his wife, four sons and four daughters: Ole Anderson, Edward Anderson both of Ahsahka, Idaho, Anna (Mrs. J.F. Haas) of Canastota, South Dakota, Bertha (Mrs. E.J. Harris) of Big Lake, Minnesota, Olga (Mrs. Otto Wetternack) and Minnie (Mrs. John Wetternach) of Minneapolis, John and Reuben Anderson at home. Two brothers also survive: John Anderson of Peerless, Montana, Edward in the old country. (Norway I think.) Three children preceded Otto in death, two in infancy and one son, August, passed away in October 1934. There are also seventeen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held on Monday, May 22, at 10 o'clock from the Anderson Funeral Home; Rev. C. E. Hansen officiating. Interment took place in the Norwegian Lutheran Cemetery of Nelson, Rev. Hansen sang, "Jesus Savior Pilot Me" and "Under His Wing". The pallbearers were Otto Lund, L. E. Lund, John Iverson, Hans Iverson, Christ Knudson, and Theo Kunde.

Look at the postings for his wife, and any children for additional information. Those are linked below.

Otto Anderson is noted as being from Lima Parish, in Dalarna, Sweden. The mother Ellen or Ella is notes as from Solør in Norway.
Their first four children were born in the area of eastern Norway known as Solør, in the parish of Grue. The information for their emigration from the port of Oslo comes from the Digital Archives out of the University of Bergen. Here is a link the actual emigration:
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=30&filnamn=emikra1&gardpostnr=93140&merk=93140#ovre

(The emigrants lists does not list the parents names next to the 4 sons names, but they are on the same ship, etc.)

Emigration notes for the parents:
registering to leave Oslo May 5, 1887, leaving May 6, 1887, Otto Anderson (and Ella Anderson) married couple, laborer, age 32 for him, age 25 for her. Leaving Grue parish, (in Hedmark county, Norway) going to Alexandria, A.Sharpe was the travel agency, Marsdin was the ship, which probably just took them as far as Hull England, then overland to Liverpool to catch a trans-Atlantic ship for the overseas part of the voyage.

Kvens (kveeni in Kven language / Finnish; kvener in Norwegian, and kveanat in Northern Sami) are an ethnic minority in Norway who are descended from Finnish peasants and fishermen who emigrated from the northern parts of Finland and Sweden to Northern Norway in the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1996 the Kvens were granted minority status in Norway, and in 2005 the Kven language was recognized as a minority language in Norway.

Here are the 1865 censuses showing first Eli (Ellen) and then Otto's families.

The 1875 census, 10 years later, and 6 years before they married, shows Eli with the two brothers mentioned in her Alexandria, Minnesota Obituary. Her father is a logger, supporting the family with logging and 'floating' which can mean sending the logs downstream to the mill. The ethnicity is still noted as Kven. K.K.

The 1875 census for Otto Andersen clarifies that while his father was originally from Grue, in Hedmark Norway, his mother had come from Lima, Dalarna, Sweden, and the oldest children were also born in her home tract. So their ethnicity is k.s., Kven (northern Finnish from Sweden.)
That area of Grue is also called Finn-skogen, the Finnish Forest.
