TARRYTOWN, NEW YORK, July 23, 1971--Charles W. Chattaway, administrator of the Metropolitan Brewers Institute and executive secretary of the New York State Brewers Association, died today in Phelps Memorial Hospital, after a long illness. He was 62 years old and lived at 49 Roundabend Road.

Before joining the institute in 1951, Mr. Chattaway served as associate councel of the State Liquor Authority.

Earlier, he was legal advisor to the United States Military Government and a judge in the military courts in Germany.

A graduate of Columbia College and Columbia Law School, Mr. Chattaway was an assistant district attorney of New York County under the late Thomas E. Dewey.

Surviving are his widow, Margaret Jagger Duckoff Chattaway, a son, Charles Dahill Chattaway; two sisters, Dorothy Chattaway and Helen; and a brother, Roland Ewer Chattaway, Jr.

The family will receive friends at The Edwards Funeral Home, Inc., on 64 Ashford Avenue, Dobbs Ferry, New York on Sunday from 7 to 9 P.M. Memorial Service 3 P.M., Monday at the Irvington, New York Presbyterian Church. Interrment private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Phelps Memorial Hospital.
