Judith Ann Ash Zabolotny, 70, of Grant Town, died Friday (Feb. 27, 2009) at Fairmont General Hospital.

She was born Feb. 13, 1939, in Rivesville, a daughter of the late George Mason and Bertha Blanch Hawkins Ash.

Mrs. Zabolotny was Catholic by faith and was a member of the former St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Grant Town, where she was in the choir, altar society and was an ecumenical minster. She was a 1957 graduate of Rivesville High School. She was formerly employed as a telephone operator and also worked at Standard Supply.

She lived for her grandchildren, whom she loved to watch play soccer and football. Over the years, Mrs. Zabolotny cared for around 35 foster children as well as babysat for several neighborhood children. In her free time, she loved to watch West Virginia University football, collect Fenton Milk Glass and travel, especially to Texas in the winter time.

She is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, James E. Zabolotny Sr.; one son, James "Bo" Zabolotny; two daughters, Sarah Zabolotny of Farmington, and Stacy Buchanan and her husband Dave of Lost Creek; one sister, Imogene Nattrass and her husband William Scott of Texas; five grandchildren: Micah James Mason Mileto, Shelby Judith Leigh Carr, Prezzley Buchanan, Stormer Buchanan and Cora S. Helmick; one son-in-law, Roger Carr Jr.; several special nieces and nephews; and her best buddy, her dog Gizzie.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Patty Carr; and six brothers and sisters: James Ash, Robert Ash, Jackie Ash, Thelma Smith, Betty Moore and Helen M. Floyd.

Friends may call from 1-7 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday at the Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, Second and Jasper streets, Rivesville. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Father Patsy Iaquinta officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Fairmont.
