HANNA CITY, IL – Capt. Valentino J. Zabolotny, 88, of Hanna City, IL passed away March 27, 2013 at 8:58 am at Farmington Country Manor Nursing Home, Farmington, IL.
He fought a courageous battle with strokes and Parkinson's disease. "Val", as he was called, was born January 26, 1925 in Grant Town, West Virginia, the son of Anthony and Agnes (Syrieka) Zabolotny.
He served 14 years in the military. At the age of 17, he joined the Navy. He then transferred to the Army, then the Paratroopers, and finally the Air Force, where he became a fighter pilot. He served during WWII.
He retired from the Air Force and became a pilot for Eastern Airlines and flew for them for 28 years.
Val married Rosanne Rote on November 27, 1952 in Fairmont, WV. Val is survived by his wife of Hanna City; two daughters, Mikell Lynn (George) Duncan of Hanna City and Valerie Hoge of Castle Rock, CO; one son, Mark (Jodi) Zabolotny of Rockwell, TX; eight grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Josephine Mazure and Frances Koch of Fairmont, WV and Helen Poling of Centerville, OH.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Stanley, Walter, and Jimmy; and one sister, Florence "Toolie".
Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no services.
Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home, Farmington is in charge of arrangements.
