After serving for many years with the Royal Navy, William Wilson immigrated to Canada sometime around 1901. He enlisted and served with the Canadian Rifles during the South African War, and then returned to Canada to marry Bertha Eastwood in 1903. He came west with his father-in-law, Robert Eastwood, about 1906, to work for the railroad. He was employed as a machinist until he retired.
