Alvin Clyde Roth was born May 7, 1924, to Morris Roth and Rose Markovics Roth. He had one sibling, Evelyn Doris Roth, who was born in 1920 (family history).
Alvin built model airplanes and flew them in contests around Akron while still in grade school. He was a graduate of South High School and attended Akron University for a year before going into the service. He also had worked in his father's sheet metal shop. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps at the age of eighteen (from the Akron Beacon Journal, July 11, 1945 obituaries).
He was killed on a mission over Formosa (now Taiwan) on June 18, 1945, while flying as a 2nd Lieutenant with the 431st Fighter Squadron, 475th Fighter Group, USAAF (http://www.475th.org/home/475th/431st-personnel). He is listed as Missing in Action or Buried at Sea. His awards include the Air Medal and Purple Heart(http://www.abmc.gov/search/detailwwnew.php).
