SPARTANBURG, SC-- Robert Earl "Bob" DeLapp, Jr., died Sunday morning, March 29, 2009, in the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.
Mr. DeLapp was born in Reidsville, NC on July 14, 1925. He was the son of the late Robert Earl and Florence Griffin DeLapp. He faithfully served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. DeLapp was a graduate of N.C. State where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Textile Engineering. He retired from J.P. Stevens and Tuscarora Yarns, Inc. Mr. DeLapp served on the board of the Spartanburg National Bank and was an avid golfer. He was a member of the Greenville Cotillion Club and the Episcopal Church of the Advent in Spartanburg.
Mr. DeLapp is survived by his wife, Mrs. Phyllis Buchheit DeLapp; his son, Robert E. DeLapp, III and his wife Sandra of Greenville, SC, and their two sons, Robert E. DeLapp, IV and Sterling E. DeLapp; two step-sons, Philip J. Babb and his wife Shawnee and Andrew M. Babb and his wife Kitsy; and one step-daughter, Laurie Barnett, all of Spartanburg.
A Memorial Service will be held today, Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at 3:00 PM at The Episcopal Church of the Advent conducted by the Reverend Dr. Clay H. Turner and the Reverend Sue Perrin.
The family will welcome friends immediately following the memorial service at The Parish and Community Life Center, Church of the Advent.
A private inurnment will be held in the Episcopal Church of the Advent, Cleveland Bell Tower Columbarium.
The family would like to express their gratitude to all the caregivers during Mr. DeLapp's time of illness.
In remembrance of Mr. DeLapp, memorials may be made to The Episcopal Church of the Advent Foundation, 141 Advent Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302; Spartanburg Regional Hospice, 120 Heywood Avenue #300, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or to a charity of one's choice.
