Elma Ella Powell was born November 20 1856, in Wayne County, IN, the second child of Thomas Elwood and Uria (Armstrong) Powell. Before she was two, the family moved to Highland County, OH, where her two younger sisters and her only brother were born. Ella met David Lindsay Boggess in Highland County, where they married on May 29 1889. From then on, Ella devoted her life to her home and her family. In May, 1890, their only child, Claude, was born in Greenfield, Highland County.
Ella, David and Claude spent several years in Highland County before moving to Columbus, Ohio, for David's new job in the oil industry. By 1905, David was promoted to oil field foreman and had transferred to New Freeport, Greene County, PA, where they were to live for the remainder of David's career.
After David retired, the couple moved to Mannington, Marion County, WV, near their son and his family. When David died in 1937, Ella went to live with her son and his wife who had recently moved to Charleston, WV.
Claude died unexpectedly in 1942, but Ella continued to live with her daughter-in-law in Charleston, until her own death on February 2 1948.
Ella was a talented needlewoman, and much of her lovely work is still in the possession of her descendants.
