Funeral services for Sam Holland, 66, Mooringsport, who died Wednesday, May 24, 1961, were held Friday, May 26, 1961 in the Hanner Funeral Home Chapel in Vivian. Mr. Holland, a Caddo Parish sheriff's deputy for 22 years, died en route to a Vivian hospital after suffering a heart attack. He had been employed as caretaker at the Kiwanis Club Camp on Caddo Lake since retiring from his deputy's duties two year ago.

He was born in Atlanta, Texas, but lived most of his life at Mira. He moved to Mooringsport about eight years before his death. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Louisiana Peace Officers Association.

Burial was in Macedonia Cemetery near Bloomburg, Texas.
