Julia Mary Elizabeth Horton Banks and Thomas William Banks were married 20 Mar 1880 in Yancey County, North Carolina

She is descended from Henry DeHorton born 1220 in Horton, Northamptonshire, England. In 1269 he was appointed the baillif for Richard Gobion who worked for King Henry III. He built the Horton manor in Knaptoft, Leicestershire, England in 1279 and it was held by the Horton family until 1761 when it was demolished and a new house was built there. Most of his descendants lived in the nearby town of Mowsley.

Barnabas Horton (1600-1680) and his family immigrated to New York during the 1630's and the next three generations resided in Southold, New York.

Barnabas' great-grandson, Caleb Horton (1600-1680) moved to Chester, New Jersey. Caleb was the grandfather of Zephaniah Horton (1760-1844) who was a Revolutionary Soldier and was the first Horton to live in Yancey County, North Carolina. He was Mack Horton's grandpa and Mack was Julia's grandpa.
