Cornelius Loftin, Jr was born in No. Carolina in 1850 to Cathrine Daves and Solomon Loftin. The family migrated from No. Carolina to Norma, Finley Co., Missouri in the 1860's.
According to the family legend, Mr. Loftin married Ticia Silvey in Missouri and to this union two children were born, John Riley and Thomas (Thomas died at an early age) Loftin. After Ms. Loftin passed away, Mr. Loftin took John Riley, in the middle of the night and headed for Texas/Oklahoma. Then, Mr. Loftin remarried Nancy Ann Burris. According to the 1880 census, Mr. Loftin was living in Montague, Montague County, Texas and was listed as a farmer with Nancy as his wife and John Riley, Charley, and George Ann as children. Later, the Loftins, moved to Union Town, Tulsa County, Indian Territory (Oklahoma)area. According to Ghost Towns of America, Union Town is now a Ghost Town; however, the City of Tulsa has taken most of this area into the city. Most of the homes were moved when the city built the Hillcrest Hospital. This area is where most of the remaining children were born. Later, they moved to Witts Springs and St. Joe, Arkansas. While living in the St. Joe and Witts Springs area, Mr. Loftin and his youngerst son, Jimmy owned and operated grocery stores in the area.
