Loyd Lester Sanders was born in Spaulding, Hughes County, Oklahoma on October 13, 1913. Loyd came to the Ada area from Holdenville at an early age. He attended Ada Schools and loved playing sports, especially baseball. At one time, he was offered a position on the St. Louis Cardinals professional team as a catcher. He also played on the semi-pro team in the Ada area. He played ball with Harry Breecheen, Hugh Warren and others. Loyd worked as a butcher for many years in the Ada area.
Loyd served in the US Navy during WWII; working as a cook in Ford Island, or Pearl Harbor.
Loyd is survived by his wife Edith, of the home; His Mother, Lala Mahaffey; two sons, Lloyd Sanders of Lindsay, OK and Rigby Sanders of Harrison, AR.; Four grandchildren, Dianna Taylor, Donna Richardson, Scott and Kevin Sanders; a sister, Oleta Hooks of Ada and a brother, James B. Mahaffey of Hot Springs, AR. Loyd was preceeded in death by a brother, John Mahaffey of Kansas, and a grandson, Danny Sanders of Lindsay, OK.
