OBITUARY: Erie Newspaper, Saturday, July 26, 1913
"SUDDEN DEATH OF G. BAUMANN His Death Occurred at 1 o'clock Friday, was a Vet of the Civil War-
Funeral next Tuesday The death of Gustave Baumann, age 67, the well known senior member of the firm of Gustave Baumann and Sons Carpet Works, occurred at 1 o'clock Friday noon at the family residence, 644 East Fifth street. he has been ailing for some months past, but had been out and around only a few hours previous to his death. He had eaten dinner with his family, seemingly in his usual good spirits, when a few minutes later he was overtaken with a fainting spell and succumbed in a few minutes.
His sudden taking away comes as a severe shock to his immediate family and many friends.
Mr. Baumann was one of the city's foremost citizens; an honored and respected business man and his death is generally regretted. Deceased took an active part in the Civil War, being a member of the 102nd N.Y. Regiment. He was a prominent member of the Grand Army of the Republic, and was a leader in patriotic and civil affairs. He was born in Karlsruh, Germany and came to this city in 1866, and during his long life in this city has been one of its leading progressive and successful business men.
Those surviving his death are his wife, formerly Miss Magdalena Haas; two sons, August L. and Joseph C., who were connected with their father in business; also the following daughters: Mrs. George Schafer, Mrs. Catherine Bell, Mrs. Amelia Boyd, Mrs. Otto Hess, Mrs. Edward and Henry Meyer, Mrs. Andrew Weber, and Agnes and Florence Baumann at home. Thirty-two grandchildren and three great grandchildren and five sisters, Mrs. Lena Morganstern, Mrs. Mary Flitner, Mrs. Carrie Baily, Mrs. Eva Gauley, all of San Francisco, Cal., and Mrs. Bernadino Unger of New York City, also survive.
The funeral will be held from the late home, 644 East Fifth street, next Tuesday morning at 8:30 o'clock, the funeral services being held at St. Mary's church at 9 o'clock.
The interment will take place in the family lot in Trinity cemetery."
