Mr. James Cornelious “Abe” Abercrombie, 91, died Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Chester Regional Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Chester with Rev. Clay Waldrip officiating. Interment will follow at Chester Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Barron Funeral Home.

Born September 20, 1924 in Lumpkin County, GA, Mr. Abercrombie was a son of the late Mr. James Dewitt Abercrombie and Mrs. Ella Mae Anderson Abercrombie. He attended the schools of Lumpkin County, GA and was a graduate of Chester County Schools and was a veteran of the U. S. Marines having served in WWII. Abe began his career in Chester in 1947 with South State Chevrolet and worked there until he founded Abe’s Garage in 1975. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Chester, SC.

He is survived by his three sons, Harry L. Abercrombie (Emma), James Donnie Abercrombie (Juanita), and Freddie W. Abercrombie (Denise) all of Chester, SC; three daughters, Mildred Crosby (Roger), Sue Lindsay (George), and Shirley Mobley (Keith) all of Chester, SC; one brother, Sam Abercrombie (Margaret) of Chester, SC; one sister, Mae Edmondson of Clermont, GA; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Abercrombie was preceded in death by his wife Mary Nell Head Abercrombie; one grandson, James Michael Lindsay; two brothers, Y. D. Abercrombie and Rudolph Abercrombie and two sisters, Guenia Faye Kanady and Glancie Ledford.
