Obituary for Etta Grace Valentine Balthaser from the Circleville Democrat & Watchman, March 15, 1895:

"ETTA GRACE BALTHASER. Mrs. Grace Balthaser, daughter of Daniel and Caroline Valentine, was born August 15, 1873, and after a brief illness joined the white robed Legions on the evergreen shores of Eternity March 7, 1895, aged 21 years, 6 months and 12 days. She was baptized in infancy by the Rev. W. H. Swaney. Two years ago, she made a profession of religion and united with the Presbyterian Church at Amanda, April 20, 1893, under the pastoral care of Rev. W. C. Wallace, of which church she remained a faithful active member until removed by death. This being the first call of the Pale Horse to her own and her father's family, it places at the great white throne of Jesus a bright monitor calling them higher. They are not inclined to murmur, but in the language of Job, say, 'The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.' She was deeply interested in the different departments of church work, and especially that of the Westminster League, of which she was a charter member, so that we believe it can be truthfully said of her that she was always willing to do what she could to advance the interests of the church. She was married to Professor Clarance R. Balthaser, August 19, 1891. This union was blessed with two children. She leaves to mourn her sad departure a grief-stricken husband, two motherless children, a sorrowing father and mother, two brothers, two sisters and a large circle of sympathizing friends. In the death of the departed sister, the bereaved brother and little children have lost an affectionate companion and loving mother, and the community a noble Christian lady. Their loss is her eternal gain. 'Weep not; she is not dead but sleepeth.' In the absence of her regular pastor, the funeral was conducted by Rev. J. A. Seitz, at the Presbyterian Church, Amanda, the basis of the discourse being Luke 8:82. Interment in Maple Hill Cemetery, Stoutsville."
