Phebe Ellen Grossnickle was born November 19, 1897, in Frederick County, Maryland, the daughter of Tilghman Luther and Alice May Carmack Grossnickle. On October 2, 1920, in Woodsboro, Frederick County, she married Raymond Joseph Albaugh, son of George William and Ella Handley Albaugh. They were the parents of 2 daughters: Nellie Isabelle and Betty Jane Albaugh. Phebe passed away September 1, 1982, in Mt. Airy, Frederick County, and was buried on the 3rd in Haugh's Church Cemetery, Ladiesburg, Frederick County, Maryland.

"The Raymond Albaughs Married Fifty Years. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond J. Albaugh, near Detour, were honored recently on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary. The celebration was hosted by their two daughters and three of their grandsons, and was an open house held at their home, which was appropriately decorated in white and gold. The couple was presented a yellow carnation corsage and a yellow boutonniere by their daughter, Mrs. Betty Boone, after which they opened the celebration by cutting the three-tier anniversary cake. A large sheet cake was decorated by Mrs. Isabelle Smith and Mrs. Mary Krom, with white doves on gold rings and tiny pink rosebuds. Mr. and Mrs. Albaugh were married in Woodsboro, October 2, 1920, by the late Rev. Patterson. Mr. Albaugh is the son of the late George and Ellen Albaugh of near Midway. Mrs. Albaugh is the daughter of the late Tillman L. and Alice Grossnickle of near Detour. Mr. Albaugh is a retired dairy farmer. They are the parents of two daughters, Mrs. Isabelle Smith, Rocky Ridge, and Mrs. Boone, Westminster. They also have three granddaughters and eight grandsons: Janet and Donna Boone, and Joann Denise Smith; Karl Joseph Smith, Jr., Emmitsburg; Ronald V. Smith, Fort Carson, Colorado; Larry, Jerry, Jimmie, Ricky, Randy and Jeffrey Smith. They have one great-granddaughter, five-month-old Patricia Ann Smith, Colorado. The highlight of the event was when Mr. and Mrs. Albaugh were presented a framed certificate from Gov. Marvin Mandel of Maryland, and a framed greeting from President Richard Nixon. Many gifts were received, also a money tree, which was decorated by Mr. and Mrs. Karl Smith. Approximately 150 guests attended from various points in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia. Sending gifts, but unable to attend, were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Baker, Hampshire, Illinois."

"Mrs. Phebe Ellen Albaugh, 84, formerly of Haugh's Church Road, died Wednesday morning at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Mount Airy after an extended illness. Her husband, Raymond Joseph died in 1976. Born in Frederick County, Mrs. Albaugh was a daughter od the late Tilman and Alice Carmack Grossnickle. Mrs. Albaugh was a lifelong member of Mount Zion Haugh's Lutheran Church in Ladiesburg. Surviving are one daughter Mrs. Betty Boone, Westminster; one sister, Mrs. Mary Martz, Walkersville; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, September 2, at the Thomas D. Fletcher & Son Funeral Home, 254 East Main Street, Westminster, and from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Friday, September 3, at Mount Zion Haugh's Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery."
