Roy Franklin Maggard was born in Greensburg, MO., Jan 15, 1885, and died at the Decatur County hospital in Oberlin on Oct. 12, 1960, at the age of 75 years.

Maggard was one of five children born to Frank and Emma Maggard. When he was less than a year old, his parents moved to a homestead in Norton county, where he lived until he was eight years old. His parents came to Decatur, county to make their home and it was in this county that Roy lived until his death.

He and Dollie Van Pelt were married in 1913 and moved to a farm in Olive township, where they lived for 47 years, or their entire married life. Four children were born, one son and three daughters.

Maggard was at all times a wonderful father and a great lover of his home and his work. He had enjoyed good health and continued operating his farm until he was stricken with a heart attack on Aug. 9. He had been cared for at the Decatur County hospital until his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mrs. Dollie Logan; one brother, Charlie Maggard.

Surviving him are his wife, Dollie; son, Lloyd Maggard of La Crosse; twin daughters, Mrs. Ola Yauk of McCook and Mrs. Zola Brown of Selden; another daughter, Mrs. Ella Betts, Ogallala, Neb.; brother, Fred Maggard of Oberlin; sister, Elberta Ewing, Forest Grove, Ore., nine grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
