Atlanta, Ga. - Memorial services for Mrs. Charlie Mae Allen will be 12 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011, at Seventeenth Street Baptist Church.

Mrs. Charlie Mae Allen was born in Chambers County, Alabama on November 11, 1913. She was the eldest of eight children born to the union of Henry and Bessie Crowder.

She was married to the late Dempsey Allen and from that union was born five daughters, Annie Carrie, Jeanette, Mae Willie, Ruby Lee, and Bernice.

At an early age she joined Canaan Baptist Church in Chambers County. She moved to Anniston where she joined the Seventeenth Street Missionary Baptist Church and in 2006 moved to Atlanta, Ga.; where she joined The Word of God Ministries Church.

Charlie Mae Allen was known as a very caring and loving mother to her family.

She helped rear her brother James' children following their mother's death. They include Betty, Janice, Deborah, James Jr., Lonnie, and Donnie Crowder.

And years later assisted with the rearing of her niece, Angelica Boyd from birth.

She also assisted with rearing of her employer's (The Lindsey's) sons, Allen, Keith, and Dennis.

Mama Allen was always looking after her family from caring for those that were sick to being supportive and encouraging in any way that she could. She was there for her family, friends, and neighbors.

She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Ruby L. Paige, of Atlanta, Ga., Bernice (William) Watts of Roanoke; one sister, Mattie Smedley of Roanoke; ten grandsons, Charlie J. McCurdy, Vance Thomas, Travis and Dairie Paige, of Atlanta, Ga., Ronnie D. Tyner, William Jr., Daniel, Robert, Greg, and Kelvin Watts of Roanoke; five granddaughters, Cynthia Thomas, Anita Hill, of Atlanta, Ga., Cassandra Ballard of Roanoke, Priscilla Ransom, of Pine Mountain, Ga., and Valerie Moody, of LaGrange, Ga.; twenty-four great- grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; two sons-in-law, Ralph V. Thomas of Chattanooga, Tenn. and William Watts Sr., of Roanoke; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by: three daughters, Annie Carrie McCurdy, Jeanette A. Thomas and Mae Willie Allen; four brothers, James, Beotis, J.B., and L.D. Crowder; two sisters, Willie Lee Boyd and Gladys Avery; two sons-in-law, Willie Joe McCurdy, Arthur Lee Paige; one grandson, Roy Phillips Jr. .
