Bud was the son of Walter and Emma (Peterson) Buhro. His parents moved from Wisconsin to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, when Bud was 9 years old. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. When he returned to Sault Ste. Marie after the war, he took a job at Kincheloe Air Force Base, where he served as superintendent of pavements and grounds. When the Air Force Base closed in 1977, he moved to Fort Fairfield, Maine, and worked at Loring Air Force Base until he retired in 1985.

He was active in the Free Methodist and Wesleyan Churches throughout his life, serving in many positions of leadership at the local and district levels.

Bud died at the hospital in Bangor. He was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara (Hubbert) Buhro; his sister, Adah (Buhro) Poisson; and brothers Robert and Charles Buhro. He was survived by his wife Shirley (Nicholas) Buhro.
