James Tillman Jenkins was born July 3, 1865 in Cassville, Bartow County, Georgia, and never knew his father. The story was his father died on the way home from the Civil War. His mother remarried and the family moved to Mississippi. He did not get along with his step-father and ran away on a cattle drive to Florida in 1881 when he was 16. His wife, Della, and his daughter, Frances, said they never met another soul he was related to and that he never talked of his family, and never told his father's name. When he first left home he wrote to his mother a few times, but she told him whenever she received a letter her husband would beat her, so he never contacted her again. He died April 18, 1943 in Ocoee, Orange County, Florida.
Della's father was William Tomlinson,(#20512508) born March 18, 1848,Florida, died Feb 21, 1922, Seville, Volusia County, Florida, and her mother was Eliza Jane Johnson, (#20512510) born Feb 21, 1856, Nassau County, Florida, died Dec 3, 1930, Seville, Volusia County, Florida. They were married March 12, 1873 in Hilliard, Nassau County, Florida.
