Muril Barnett age 64 of Clovis N.M. died Monday June 4, 2012, at home after a short history of Lung Cancer and Pulmonary Fibroses.
Muril was born February 8, 1948, In Mora, MN. He moved to Clovis, NM in 1957 where his stepfather was stationed at Cannon Air Force Base. He attended Eugene Field Elementary, Marshall Jr. High and Clovis High school. He married Pearl Steele February 12, 1967. Muril farmed for Carroll Dennington of Clovis, NM and Dr. DeMio of Clovis.
He moved to Hilrose, CO where he farmed for Allyn Wind for 12 years. Returned to Clovis and worked for American Cattle Feeders and Opplingers Land and Cattle Feeders for 16 years.
Muril and his wife spent 35 years as foster parents for CYFD in Colorado and New Mexico, they were also treatment foster parents for Namasta, Raindancer, and Teambuilders all of Clovis.
In 2007 they received an award of Treatment Foster parents of the year in New Mexico, given by Teambuilders Treatment Fostercare. They also received the "Finding There Way Home" adoption award for NM in 2007. They were fortunate to be able to love and care for over 400 children in their home during the 35 years. Muril loved being a foster parent and enjoyed caring for all the children as if they where his own.
Muril loved camping and fishing at Mavrick camp ground in Cimmaron Canyon, NM. Where he had many friends whom he enjoyed seeing and spending time with for 20 years. He was an avid Vikings fan.
He loved working on his home and land also doing mechanic work for family and friends. Muril loved Christmas and will be remembered for the many days he spent decorating his home with thousands of lights and Christmas decorations for all of Clovis to enjoy.
Muril also loved being Santa's helper on Christmas Eve and providing gifts for the children and adults.
Muril is survived by his wife Pearl Barnett of the home, 4 daughters - Jessica (David) Garcia of Clovis, Anselma McIntosh (Jay Herrington) of Texico, NM. Alexandra Barnett of Clovis, and Tabitha Barnett of Clovis. 2 sons - Andrew Barnett of Clovis, James Barnett of Bossier City, LA. Also Joe Caswell whom has always been like a son to him.
He has two brothers, Roger Shelton (Judy) of Pahrump, NV, Robert Price (Eva) of Odessa TX. Mother-in-law Neva Steele of Clovis, 14 grand children, numerous nieces and nephews and wonderful friends, many foster children whom he loved and cared for.
Muril was preceded in death by his father, mother, 5 brothers and one sister.
Memorial services will be held at First Christian Church 1700 N. Main, Clovis NM, 4:00 pm June 9, 2012, with Jon Forrest officiating. Cremation will take place and burial will be at a later date in Lead SD with his father and brothers.
Muril was a very caring and loving husband and father and loved all the children that were in his home. He will be missed a lot.
