Physician in Weatherford
Oldest of five children, he always wanted to be a doctor. As a boy, he applied to a local doctor and was allowed to drive the doctor's horses on his house calls, and to read the doctor's medical books.
He married in Sugden,Indian Territory, where he was physician and his wife was a teacher and clerk in the general store.
Dr. Fyke's first hospital in Weatherford was a large home on Josephine. He later purchased the old Bowie mansion on the North Side of Weatherford and converted it to a hospital. The Bowie Hospital was destroyed by fire in 1938, but all staff and patients were evacuated safely. He then built a new Bowie Hospital.
Dr. Fyke was reportedly an excellent surgeon.
