AXTELL--Donald E. Bernasek, 72, Axtell, died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Bernasek was a farmer and dairyman his entire life. He also served on the Sabetha Creamery Board of Directors for 1951 to 1955, and he had an auctioneer's license. He later worked for the Landoll Corp. in Marysville from 1984 to 1989, Twin Valley Developmental of Beattie from 1990 to 1996, and he drove a bus for the Axtell School District from 1997 to 1999.
He was born March 10, 1927, on a farm near Axtel, the son of Joseph Bernasek Sr. and Mildred Malacek Bernasek. He graduated from Axtell High School in 1945, and from the Reinsch Auctioneer School in Mason City, Iowa, in 1957.
Mr. Bernasek was a lifetime member of St. Michaels Church.
He married Merle Leann Lackey on June 1, 1946, in Axtell. She survives.
Other survivors include four daughters, Leann Deloning, Beatrice, Neb., Rose Mary Duryea and Arlene Henry, both of Seneca, and Carol Holthaus, Axtell; two sons, George, Valley Center, and Marvin, Beattie; two brothers, Joseph Jr., Summerfield and Frank, Manhattan; a sister, Anna Rundle, Manhattan; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Axtell. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's Catholic School or to Meadowlark Hospice of Clay center and sent in care of Landreth-Popkess Funeral Home in Axtell.
