| Birth: | 1820 Kentucky, USA | | Death: | 1899 Berryton Shawnee County Kansas, USA | Nancy Stewart, wife of George Washington Berry, was born in 1820, in Kentucky, the daughter of David and Elsie Lorrison Stewart. Upon the notification of the death of Mrs. Nancy Stewart Berry, the following resolution was adopted:
"NANCY STEWART BERRY 1820-1899 WHEREAS, it has pleased our Divine Master to call from this community one of the early settlers, after a long life of usefulness, like the fully ripened grain she has been garnered to the eternal home. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that in the death of Mrs. Berry, we have all sustained a loss and that we extend to the bereaved husband and all members of her family our heartfelt sympathy. THAT we are thankful for all the kindnesses received from her for her help in building up the community and for the good example she has given us and that her influence does not end with her earthly existence. Committee: Hayden Waters, F. J. Otis, Will Hixon"
According to her obituary in the NORTH TOPEKA MAIL, "Nancy Berry was a friend of the lowly and her kindness and sympathy has lived to bless her name. In early days the Indian warmed by her fireside and learned to respect her firmness and kindness of manner; while emigrants to a new country were always welcome to her house."
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. M. E. Harlan of the First Christian Church of Topeka from the late home and Berry Creek Church; the burial being at Yocum Cemetery.
