Mary Louellen (DeMasters) Hartman, RN was born May 21, 1909 in Emmett, Idaho. She passed away at the age of 86 on Oct 17, 1995, in Tacoma, Washington. Mary went to school in Emmett, Sweet, and Boise, Idaho. Having graduated from high school in 1929 and from nurses training at St Alphonsus Hospital as a registered nurse in 1932, she married Edward J. Nelson in 1932. She moved to Tacoma, Wa in 1946 and married Charles W. Hartman. In and about Tacoma she worked as a private duty nurse at all hospitals from 1946 to 1970. Mary was preceded in death by Charles in June 1982. She was a member of local Riverside Valley Grange #1047. A member of the first Congregational Church having joined in 1946 and a member of the Career Guild and United Church Women, she also was a member of the Smelterman's Retiree's Club and the private Duty RN's Club.
She is survived by her son, James Nelson and his wife Janet; her daughter Patricia Nelson Hill and her husband Allen; son Gerald Hartman and his wife Marcia; Step-son Charles W. Hartman, Jr. and his wife Mary; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; her brother Willard DeMasters and his wife Sadie, Idaho; Sister Katie Hodges and her husband John of Richland, WA; sister, Nellie Fulton and her husband, Hugh of Riggins, Idaho and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services are Sat 3:30pm at Mt. View Memorial Park, Memorial Services are Mon 11am at the First Congregational Church, 209 So J Street, Tacoma, WA. Memorial donations may be made to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital, the First Congregational Church or the organization of your choice. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home, 584-0252.

While attending St. Alphonsus School of Nursing, she was Secretary-Treasurer of the Probation Class and Secretary-Treasurer of the Senior Class as well as president of the Student Body. Eighty Nurses in the Graduating Class
