Oliver was born in St. Claire County, Missouri to Agustus A. Rogers and Sarah F. Bledsoe. He moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma in 1916, where he worked as a blacksmith in his father's shop until 1939. He later worked as a carpenter until his retirement. During this time, he built the home he lived in with his own hands, as well as the homes on either side of him on Date Street in Broken Arrow.
He was the last of his siblings to marry, and he married late in life as he stayed at home to care for his parents until they both passed. He married Eva Ellen (last name unk) date unk. They had no children, but he helped raise Eva's daughter. Eva passed in 1963.
Mutual friends introduced him to widow Susie Rebecca Campbell Carpenter in late 1964. They married on January 5, 1965, and were together till his death in 1982. He passed 6 days before his 88th birthday in the Veteran's Hospital in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
Oliver served his county in the service of the Army during WWI. He was a "doughboy" in France at the tailend of the war.
He was an active member of the Northside Freewill Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, the Broken Arrow Chapter of the Rebecca/Oddfellow Lodge, and the Chow and Chatter Club for over 50's.
He is survived by his wife of the home, Susie; two brothers, Fred F. Rogers and Willie W. "Bill" Rogers, both of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; a step-daughter, June Raney of Coweta, Oklahoma; a step-son, Donald Carpenter of Tulsa; two granddaughters, Cheryl Moore of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and LaDonna Lewis of Houston, Texas; four great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter. He will be laid to rest beside his first wife, Eva, in the Park Grove Cemetery in Broken Arrow.
