Birth: 1831
Van Hornesville
Herkimer County
New York, USA
Death: Aug., 1906
Illinois, USA

"Daniel C. McCollium was born near Hornersville N.Y., in 1831. In 1865 he came to Milo, Bureau County, Illinois and made his home with his relative, Benjamin Brewer, and later on was united in marriage with Miss Rachael, a daughter of the family. Two daughters were born to them, they marrying two brothers, James and George Forbes. Some years ago both daughters died and later Mrs. McCullom also passed away, leaving Uncle Dan. as we all called him, without wife or children. He rented a room here in town, did his cooking and laundry and worked while able at such odd jobs as he could get about town. For the past couple of years his health has been very poor and for some weeks has been under the especial care of the Masonic fraternity, of which organization he was a member. They had him carried from his room to the hotel and an attendant was employed to care for him so that he might not want for the attentions due those in sickness and distress. For some days recently he had felt much better than usual and spent a part of each day in his chair upon the piazza. On Monday morning the care taker left the room fr an instant leaving his patient sitting comfortably in his chair, On returning to the room he saw the old gentleman falling to the floor and on reaching him life was almost extinct. A physician hurriedly summoned could do nothing for him: Uncle Dan has passed away. The body was conveyed to Leadley's undertaking establishment and there prepared for burial from ther on Wednesday morning to the Baptist church; where at 10:30 were held the funeral services conducted by the pastor. the beautiful impressive farewell and burial services of the Masonic society were conducted at the grave, where his brethern bade him a last earthly good bye."
