Duane was born on June 21, 1935 at Moscow, Idaho to Eugene and Edna (Bunney) Cochrane. Duane attended the Chambers Flat Country School and finished his education at the Potlatch schools. He joined the United States Army on Dec. 4, 1956 and served in Germany. He was discharged on Nov. 18, 1959.
He married Mathilda (Tillie) Jacobson on September 1, 1962 at Fairview, Montana. Duane worked in road construction and the couple moved around to many areas including Montana, Oregon, Washington and Idaho. In 1966, the couple made their home at Potlatch, Idaho.
Duane worked for Potlatch Forests Inc. at the Potlatch mill. After the mill closed he worked at the Lewiston location. Duane also worked part-time for area farmers and drove a cement truck for Harley Drollinger's Cement Company at Potlatch. In 1986, Duane started working as a custodian at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington and retired in June of 2007 after 21 years of service to the College.
Duane was a very kind and gentle man who enjoyed being with his family. He enjoyed hunting and 4-wheeling. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Potlatch. Duane was an enthusiastic volunteer with the Idaho Food Pantry as well as a former volunteer of the Potlatch Fire and Ambulance for several years.
Duane died early Wednesday, Dec, 1, 2010 with his family by his side at his Potlatch, Idaho home from cancer.
Survivor's include his wife of 48 years Mathilda (Tillie) Cochrane at the Potlatch home, one son Kevin Cochrane and his wife Sandy, one daughter, Brenda and her husband Lamont all of Potlatch, Idaho, two brothers. Marlyn Cochrane(Virginia), St. Maries, Idaho, Charles Cochrane, Princeton, Idaho, one sister-in-law Loan Cochrane of Potlatch. Four grandchildren, Blair Cochrane, Chad Bartlett, Tami Koster(Scott) and Pam Colvin(Curtis) five great-grandchildren Michael Koster, Amber Colvin, Ryan Colvin, Tristen Amundsen, Joshua Carpenter, one great-great-grandchild, Kenzie Koster. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Foy Cochrane and infant sister Leila Cochrane.
