Verna L. Carter, 84, passed away, in Sandpoint, on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010.
Graveside services were conducted Saturday, Oct. 2, in Pinecrest Memorial Park. Pastor Jon Pomeroy, Sandpoint Church of God officiated.
Verna was born on Dec. 19, 1925 in Careywood, ID, the daughter of Charles and Jenny Victoria Heller. She attended school in Kootenai and Bonner counties. She received numerous awards for spelling and writing in school. She enjoyed reading historial romance novels.
Verna worked at the Panida Newsstand, Sandpoint Cafe, J.C. Penneys, M and J Grocery, Rogers Grocery on Lake Street, Fifth Avenue, and Excell Foods. Verna retired in 1989 to help care for her grandchildren.
Verna married Ira Frank (Pete) Carter on June 19, 1948. They had four children. She also has eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
