William Edward Lohman was born in Butte, Montana Aug. 30, 1924, to Frank and Bessie (Schaffer) Lohman. He graduated from St. Joseph Grade School and Boys Central High School in Butte. Upon returning from the armed services in World War II, he earned his bachelor's degree at Carroll College in Helena, Montana. He married his high school sweetheart Marian Stanaway on April 15, 1945, and together they raised eight children. He worked for the Anaconda Co. from 1949 until his retirement in 1979, first as a chemist at the Anaconda Smelter and later as a plant superintendent in Anaconda and in Great Falls. He was the first manager of the Arbiter Plant in Anaconda. He died Jan. 31, 2002 in Springfield, Oregon. Burial was in the Lohman family plot at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Butte, Montana. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Francis, and his sisters Marguerite Davies and Alice McLean. He was survived by his devoted wife of more than 56 years, Marian; their eight children and spouses, Bill Lohman, Marian Lohman and Paula Stufflebeam, Dave and Sherry Lohman, Dan and Flora Lohman, Cathy and Bill Lindemann, Betsy and Ben Forbes, Jim and Laura Lohman, and Ed and Ionia Lohman; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. John and Bernadine Lohman; sister-in-law, Peg Stanaway; 22 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
