Helen Marie Bye, 90, Hartford City, a Portland native, died Monday at AmeriCare Living Center of Hartford City. Born on July 16, 1915, in Portland, to Harvey H. and Ethel Lodessa (Williamson) Huey, she graduated from Portland High School in 1933. She graduated from Ball State School of Nursing in 1938 in the first nursing class at Ball State. She married Ralph E. Bye on July 7, 1939, in Martinsville, and he died on Aug. 17, 1976. She attended Millgrove United Methodist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ed (Janet M.) Johnson, Hartford City, and Mrs. Bill (Joyce J.) Becktell, Gaston; four sons, Larry K. Bye, Kokomo, Robert A. Bye, Montezuma, Ohio, William D. and Tom G. Bye, both of Hartford City; a brother, Howard D. Huey, Hartford City; sister, Mildred I. Bye, Portland; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services are Friday at 1 p.m. at Keplinger Funeral Home in Hartford City. Burial will be in Twin Hill Cemetery in Pennville. Visitation is Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
