Lcpl James Stanley "Stan The Man" Be Childers
Birth: Aug. 29, 1943
California, USA
Death: Feb. 15, 1967
Quang Nam, Vietnam

LCPL - E3 - Marine Corps - Regular

James Stanley Be Childers had completed his one year tour of duty, and had volunteered to do two to four more weeks of helicopter duty when he was killed on February 15, 1967.

I do not know whether this was the only Squadron Stan was assigned to during his career, but he is listed as having been assigned to Marine Helicopter Squadron #263.

He is listed as a hostile casualty, with helicopter and crew/air loss - crash on land, in Quang Nam, South Vietnam.

His body was recovered, but there are no further details at this time.

Stan is also listed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, Panel 15E, Line 32.

There is notation that Stan was survived by his fiance, but her name is not mentioned (nor would I be willing to list it, without her permission).

This memorial page is being placed online, on what would have been Mr. Be Childers 69th birthday.

"These heroes are dead. They died for liberty - they died for us. They are at rest. They may or may not sleep in the land they made free, under the flag they rendered stainless, under the solemn pines, the sad hemlocks, the tearful willows, and the embracing vines. They sleep beneath the shadows of the clouds, careless alike of sunshine or of storm, each in the windowless Place of Rest. Earth may run red with other wars - they are at peace. In the midst of battle, in the roar of conflict, they found the serenity of death. I have one sentiment for soldiers living and dead: cheers for the living; tears for the dead." ~Robert G. Ingersoll

RIP, Sir.

Note: I am not a family member or personal friend, and have tried to list this information correctly and respectfully - should anybody have comment or concerns (I am especially concerned with whether I have listed Stan's last name correctly, with the 'Be' uppercased), please contact me, and corrections will be made, immediately. Thank You -
