The Shibley's were an important farming family in the early Springwater area. Elva Cyrena Shibley and Thomas Baxter Bard were married in 1929 and set out to get a farm of their own about 25 miles west of Portland, Oregon.

ELVA CYRENA BARD
The funeral for Elva Cyrena Bard, a longtime resident of the Forest Grove area, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the First Christian Church of Forest Grove. A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Springwater Cemetery near Estacada.
Mrs. Bard died of causes related to age Monday in a Forest Grove care center. She was 95.
She was born July 15, 1898, in Springwater, where she was raised and received her schooling. Her maiden name was Shibley. Following her marriage to Thomas B. ''Tom'' Bard on Aug. 25, 1929, in Springwater, she moved to Forest Grove.
Mrs. Bard was a homemaker. She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church of Forest Grove. The city of Forest Grove named Bard Park on 22nd Avenue after her family. Her husband died in 1986.
She is survived by her sons, Glenn T. of Seaside, Gene C. of Duluth, Minn., and Jack E. of Cornelius; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family suggests remembrances be contributions to the Tualatin Valley Workshop, 20303 S.W. Blanton St., Aloha 97007, or to the First Christian Church of Forest Grove.
