MILAN - Betty Jean Bertelsen Atto, 90, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday September 21, 2012. She died at Avonlea Cottage in Milan, where she had made her home since 2009.

She was born January 14, 1922, in Moline, the daughter of J. W. and Cecilia Frey Bertelsen. She married Darrell G. Atto on January 15, 1944, in Rock Island. He died in 1973.

Burial in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island.

Betty worked for 25 years at the Rock Island Arsenal and Command, retiring in 1987 as executive secretary in the Logistics Support Directorate. In her younger years, she was a member of the Agnes Hurst Circle of the Kings Daughters and PTA. She was a member of the First Evangelical Free Church in Moline. There she participated in White Cross and Adult Bible Fellowship.

Betty enjoyed traveling to foreign countries as well as to many states in the USA. She loved classical music and reading. She enjoyed her grandchildren very much.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Jahn, Milan; grandchildren, Nicole (Paul) Mueller, Edgington, Ill., Paul Gavin (Amy) Jahn, Milan, and Justin D. Jahn, Rock Island; and great-granddaughter, Carly Ann Mueller, Edgington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her son, Gary L. Atto, and her brother, Wm. R. Bertelsen, M.D.
