Mr. N.N. "Asa" Burnes, Jr., age 88 of 15 Saddlebrook Drive, Rome, died Friday morning following an extended illness.

Mr. Burnes was born June 2, 1912 in Rome, GA, son of the late Norman Norwood Burnes, Sr. and Bessie King Burnes. Mr. Burnes, until his retirement, was president and chairman of Rome Manufacturing Company. He was a member of Rome First Baptist Church, where he served as a Life Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and member of the Scrap Iron Bible Class. He was a member of Rome Rotary Club, life member Rome Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors Sun Trust Bank for over 43 years, Board of Directors Home Federal Savings and Loan, Board of Directors Georgia Power Company, Board of Directors State Highway Dept., member of the Floyd County Board of Roads and Revenue, Board of Directors Shorter College, member Floyd County Hospital Authority, Coosa Country Club, President of N.N. Farms Inc. and President of Georgia Alabama Warehouse.

Mr. Burnes was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucile Clark Burnes in 1986, one sister, Mary Frances Lanier and one brother, William Wiley Burnes.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Mason Burnes; one daughter, Bess Crawford, Rome; three sons, Norman N. Burnes, III, of Virginia, Harvey C. Burnes, and John W. Burnes, Rome; two brothers, Hugh S. Burnes and Charles L. Burnes, 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Saturday 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Floyd Roebuck and Rev. Bill Davies officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the parlor of First Baptist Church and at other hours they may be contacted at the residence.

Grandsons of Mr. Burnes will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family respectfully ask in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the Touching Tomorrow Building Fund of First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1189, Rome, GA 30162-1189.

Daniels Funeral Home has charge of the services for Mr. Norman Norwood Burnes, Jr.
