JUDGE WILLIAM RANDOLPH BARKSDALE, SR
William Randolph Barksdale was the son of Elisha Barksdale and Judith Armistead (nee Barksdale)Barksdale. He served in the Virginia Militia during the Civil War. He later attended the University of Virginia, receiving his M.A. in 1870. He was admitted to the bar and was elected Judge of Halifax County. He served from 1874-1880, and from 1886-1904; then was elected Judge of Sixth Judicial District of Virginia. He held this position until his death. He also held positions as Attorney, President of Boston National Bank South Boston, Halifax County Court Judge, Judge Circuit Court Halifax, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, and Campbell Counties and Lynchburg city.
William Randolph and his first wife, Hallie Bailey Craddock, were married on November 14, 1872 at Halifax, Virginia. William and Hallie had nine children: William Randolph Jr, Fanny Poindexter, Charles Craddock, Elisha, Louise Jasper, Helen, Mary Owen, Alfred Dickinson and John Craddock.
Hallie died on April 23, 1900. William remarried on June 28, 1905, to Virginia "Jennie" Douglas Watkins in South Boston, Halifax County, Virginia.
