WICOMICO - Goldie Williams Bowers, 77, a native of Gloucester County, died Friday, March 26.
Mrs. Williams retired in 1980 as a teacher after 33 years with the Hampton School System. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church, Ordinary, and the York River Circle of the King's Daughters. A Sunday School teacher, she was also past president of the W.M.W. and past president of the Abingdon Woman's Club.
A graduate of Longwood College, Farmville, she was past president of The Hampton Education Association and the Virginia Education Association. The founder and president of the Gloucester Retired Teachers Association, she was a member of the Hampton Retired Teachers Association and president of Friends of Gloucester Library.
Survived by her husband, Thomas O. Bowers; a daughter, Dianna B. Shoemaker of Dunkirk, Md.; a son, Lloyd T. Bowers of Baltimore; two brothers, DuVal Williams and L. Wellington Williams of Gloucester Point; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Visitation from 7 to 8 tonight at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Funeral 11 a.m. Monday at Providence Baptist Church by the Revs. Thomas Gaskin and Chester Brown. Burial in Williams Family Cemetery at Providence Baptist Church.
