Larue County Herald
August 31, 1899
Mr. E. C. Allen, whom we mentioned some time ago as being sick, died August 5. He leaves a wife and two children and a father and sister to mourn their loss, to whom we extend sympathy. Mr. Allen was a kind gentleman, and in his death his family and friends sustained a great loss.

LaRue Co. Herald, 1899:
MAPLE
correspondence by Frank.
News of the death of Mr. E. C. Allen, of Enoch, when received here last Friday, cast a gloom over this community. He was a well-known citizen and one of the best men his community. He was a stanch Christian and was charitable toward all. There should be consolation in the thought that his soul is at ease in a land where temptations and sin are unknown and where life is eternal. Mr. Allen's friends were legions. He was a member of the Baptist Church, and in his death the church has sustained a great loss. He leaves a wife and two children, one son and one daughter, to mourn their loss, to whom sympathy is extended. The remains were interred in Jones Burying Ground last Saturday. Died Aug 4, 1899.

After his death, his wife, Lizzie Hedgespeth, married again on 22 December 1902 to Joseph McFarland Young. His 3rd, her 2nd marriage. She died 2 June 1935 and is buried in Good Hope Baptist Church cemetery.
