COON RAPIDS ENTERPRISE, Thursday, October 8, 1992:
A memorial service for Everett L. Brideson, 93, of San Luis Obispo, Ca., will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 17 at the Bayard Methodist Church.
Interment will be at the Highland Cemetery to follow. His family will be arriving at Coon Rapids and Bayard by October 15.
Everett was born on July 10, 1899 on the family farm two and one half miles northeast of Bayard to John and Ella (Nelle) Manville Brideson. A few years ago, the farm was designated as an "Iowa Century Farm."
Everett attended the Bayard Schools. He attended the 4C's (Capital City Commercial College) in Des Moines a short time before joining the U.S. Army Training at Iowa State University at Ames. The war ended before he saw active duty. He was the last surviving Veteran of World War I of the Bryan Mercer Post of the American Legion at Bayard.
On December 10, 1921, he was married to Gertrude Kinnick in her farm home near Coon Rapids. They became the parents of two children.
In 1948, because of their son's health, they moved to Sacramento and rented their farm to Bob Christman. About 1950 Everett became a State Agricultural Inspector at Sacramento.
In 1972, when he retired completely, they moved to the Laguna Mobile Home Estates at San Luis Obispo.
He really enjoyed golfing; swimming and the pool games at the nearby club house. He and Gertrude enjoyed over 65 years of married life together and she died there September 25, 1988.
They were life-long members of the Methodist Church and he served several years as Sunday School Superintendent as well as other church offices. He was a past president of the Guthrie County Farm Bureau, was on the board of Farmers State Bank and was still a member of Charity Masonic Lodge # 197.
For several years, Everett had suffered heart problems and spent two weeks in August at the Cabrillo Care Center.
He had returned his home and enjoyed visits with his family over the Labor Day weekend. Everett died quite unexpectedly at his home on September 10, 1992, just two months past his 93rd birthday. Everett was preceded in death by his wife, parents and three brothers; an infant, Winfred and Louis.
