Thomas Jefferson Childress was a highly civic-minded person. He served in various capacities and in 1908 he was the coroner of Kenton county. On Tuesday, 27 August 1908 two men were killed in the railroad yards of Erlanger. Squire Childress was called for the inquest. As he entered the Blanton undertaking establishment he suffered a seizure and fell, dead. The physician who was called to attend him, Dr. C.R. Slater, fainted at the sight.
